Will taking a erectile dysfunction drug disqualify you from military service?

Thursday Feb 4, 2010

I’m a healthy 26 year old male who is hoping to obtain a ROTC scholarship to attend graduate school. However, my only medical problem is that I have periodic episodes of erectile dysfunction. Will taking a prescription drug disqualify me automatically when filling out the MEPS prior to signing up for ROTC? I have no other medical problems, and can easily pass the PT examination for running, push ups and situps.

Gosh oh my Limpy, why not ask your ROTC representative. I am sure that person knows a lot more then we do.

medical problem=big issue.
But most likely your ROTC representative would have the exact answer to your problem.

theirs no need for a raging boner in the military, just get one last round with your wife/GF then stop taking the drug.

It may restrict you from certain types of duties…most likely flying. Secondly, there are other treatments for erectile dysfuntion than viagra. ED drugs may cause erratic heart pressure and periods of blacking out. In fact, there have been cases of men being blinded after using an ED. But, first talk to your doctor.
